Things are going up at the Strathalbyn Football Club!

Up until a couple of weeks ago it may well have seemed as though not much is happening with the upgrade of the Strathalbyn Football Club but to the contrary lots has been happening, much of it indoors out of the late summer heat!

The change rooms have now been completed, the Umpires rooms, with new change rooms and showers for both male and female officials, having been fitted out and completed. All ready for the first bounce come the footy season.

The summer period saw the players change rooms and interiors getting a complete over haul including new showers for both the home and away rooms. Everything has been completely repainted and there have been new ceilings installed in in some areas.

A new gym area has been built and ice bath facilities have been completed along with new benching and bag racks installed in both the home and away rooms.

If you have passed by you will have noticed the extension steel framework has been going up, it is now complete with the last of the rafters going in one recent Friday evening.

This has taken some time to erect and has been largely done by volunteer workers under the watchful eye of site manager – Smithy.

New Roof!

Saturday saw blue skies, little or no wind to speak of, in fact you could almost say it was a perfect spring day! A perfect day to re-roof a football club!

The Strathalbyn Football Club was a hive of activity last Saturday as a team of 30 volunteers, made up of players, tradies, members, committee and other helpers, went about pulling off the old roofing iron and replacing it with new.

The day started early and the helpers were soon rolling in and getting amongst the jobs.

Scaffold was built, facia was painted in preparation, nails were pulled out of the old roof, the sheets were handed down and stacked then gutters were put on in preparation for the new “True Oak” –

Big Pour at the Footy Club

Finally the Strathalbyn Football Club additions have commenced with the western side under way. After a couple of busy weeks very good progress has been made. Garwood Earthmovers were on site to remove some very stubborn old footings and then formed up the base where Chad Fergusson was able to dig trenches for the new footings and under-floor services.

Sport & Rec Grant Success

ORS and be active logos colour

The Club would like to announce has been successful in its application for funding from the Dept of Sports and Rec.
On Thursday Jan 30th Leon Bignell, Minister for Sports and Recreation, hand delivered a letter outlining our success in applying for a grant for financial assistance.
The Club, along with our partner the Strathalbyn Branch of the RSL, is extremely happy with this outcome as we received the full amount we applied for and will be now able to move ahead and get on with the construction and refurbishment of the the clubrooms, player and umpire facilities.

Buy a Brick

You can now buy a brick to help with the clubroom extensions.

To help facilitate the building extensions of the Strathalbyn Football Clubroom and to give the RSL a new home you are invited to purchase a brick, or two, to help with the construction of our project.

This is an opportunity for you or your business to support our new building project.

We are asking you to help us cover this exciting venture into our clubs facilities and future with a donation of $50.00 per brick.

You can certainly purchase more than one brick, in fact the more the better.

You will receive a certificate of ownership and you will be listed amongst the others who also purchase a brick on the Club website and on screen displays in the clubrooms.

Strathalbyn Clubrooms Expansion

The clubrooms at the Strathalbyn Football Club were built over thirty years ago by a band of dedicated volunteers and supporters who, together, even went so far as mixing the concrete floor by hand during the construction of the building.

Now the Club is looking to a building project that will not only enlarge the current facility it will revamp the change rooms to better provide for players, including facilities for female umpires, rebuild the kitchen and bar areas, and put in toilet amenities for oval users which can be open the public not only during football games but for the many other users of the precinct.

This is a large undertaking by the Strathalbyn Football club, which has huge implications for the wider community as the plan is also aimed at providing facilities that will be used by other sporting and community users, as well as providing a venue for meeting, seminars,
