Well that is the end of that – knocked out in the Preliminary Final by the smallest of margins… The Roosters had their chances and with the siren imminent could have iced the game. But some things just don’t happen to script and like everything in this game you make your opportunities and you must then take your opportunities.

Saturday’s game was a game of inches and with the quarter break scores all within a point of two at each turn it was always delicately balanced. And those few missed opportunities like the bad decisions were all, in the scheme of things, important little percentage points in that kind of close game.

Well done to the players, well done to the support staff and well done to the supporters that headed off to not only this big game but all the other games throughout the season and to all points of the Fleurieu and enjoyed watching the Rooster boys play the game that is so dear to us all.

All in all the year has been a good one for the Roosters at all levels. At the smallest level there are a lot of smiling little Rooster faces along with their mums and dads for taking home the Mini Colt final flag and trophy. The first for around 10 years. At the biggest level to be just one point off of the big dance might be hard to take but just to get to that stage in the first place is one that 7 other teams could only wish for…

Spirits are still high around the club as the building project gets closer each day to completion and the people in the inner areas are very excited about the things that will bring and the future that is going to present to, not only the Club, but the wider community with this facility being state of the art and ready for almost anything that can be turned its way.

As the Club moves to its next phase of its existence it is time for the people of Strathalbyn and surrounds to start to make this new facility part of their lives be that small – just for a beer every now and then – or big for a wedding reception, 50th birthday or similar function. This is what the project has been about. A place within the areas midst that can be utilised and therefore service the town and environs and then going on to support local bodies and the community.

Don’t forget the RSL will be an integral part of this and they will be moving in upstairs as soon as practicable and with this will come a centre where all can remember the sacrifice of others and further enjoy the freedom these wonderful people have provided. Their patch in the top deck will house memorabilia and other important reminders of what our Returned Service men and women are about.

Well as the Roosters begin to wind down for season 2016 the important presentation dinners and medal counts loom large on the horizon with both being held next week on Thursday and Friday respectively. Firstly the Colts and then the Seniors. If you wish to attend please advise Chris Cosgrave and a place can be reserved. Seats are somewhat limited and Peckings has been informed that the Friday night bash is filling fast.

Following on from this will be the AFL Grand Final day where the Club thanks its volunteers and helpers. This is open to all comers, not just the club people and there will be a small charge for lunch and of course the bar will be open from around 11:30ish. Peckings would love to see you there.

Peckings will be heading to the Great Southern Football League Grand Final this Saturday as and impartial spectator so if you do get to the Encounter Bay oval Peckings will see you at the Footy and may the best and most deserving team win!
